which niche rules?
people who know me can say that one trait that is prominent in the chld is that chld likes to distrohop well not distrohop, i have already found the only and only linux, alpine. what i meant is, i jump through a bunch of operating systems, from alpine, to BSD, to illumos, to haiku. i can say that its something i can do only in my freetime. i wouldnt say im necessarily larping, but its in the search of a "asthetic" brought just by using the operating system. though, haiku os is a completely different story, and it doesnt deserve to be larped.
alpine is really good linux. though its development tools make it GNU+linux.
freebsd is linux/freebsd.
openbsd is so slow i can see how inefficient my xl program is redrawing.
netbsd is perfect, fast, minimal, and portable. i developed my xl and xd programs on it. love it. no stable wayland though.
openindiana is good, i guess. no i965_dri.so though.
tribblix is the perfect illumos distro. it has fast svr4 ppackaging and ufs, but y2k38 or whatever. and no firefox, only the buggy palemoon though. (thank you p. tribble)
haiku is the best non-UNIX-like operating system. fun to learn and make programs for, like this, and i breifly ported cotton to it. (cotton will be getting its own page soon!)
9front if it had stable wifi, i would be able to take the time to learn and enjoy it. though, its probably my own internet, as i had to tame illumos because its nwam also picked up AP errors.
if i did work all the time, i wouldnt even be able to write this.
